The much-loved guesthouse and restaurant by the chateau has a new owner
The guesthouse by the chateau is undergoing a complete renovation and is temporarily closed. It returns under a new name, Penzión Betliar – with renewed rooms, a restaurant open to everyone and the same beautiful view of the park.
Betliar Chateau
One of the few almost completely preserved aristocratic chateaux in Slovakia – the former home of the Andrássy family, set in one of the country's finest English landscape parks.
The chateau stands on the site of an older Bebek family fort. The Andrássys settled in Betliar in the early 18th century, and in the late 19th century Count Emanuel Andrássy – the “Iron Count” – gave it its present form as a turreted hunting residence.
The chateau escaped wartime and post-war looting, so its rooms are still full of original furniture, paintings, a library and collections from travels around the world. The park hides an artificial waterfall, a Freemasons' pavilion and a fountain with a statue of Psyche.

The count's former coach house
Just 50 metres from the chateau stands the count's former coach house, still decorated with a terracotta horse head on its gable.
The much-loved guesthouse and restaurant has a new owner. The building is undergoing a complete, careful renovation and reopens at Easter 2027 as Penzión Betliar.
